Upcycling

The trend of upcycling is going strong and I've been trying to get into it, even if I don't wear whatever I make, because I want to learn how to sew and make my own clothes. I've been trying this for the last three years, so, you can imagine how amazing my progress has totally been. I've been hunting in charity shops and my own wardrobe for a couple of projects and here is an attempt, just for fun.

I found these two t-shirts in my drawers that I bought from New Look a couple of years ago but stopped wearing after six months or so.

As you can see, not exactly super flattering anymore. They've stretched out a bit. So, I decided if I wasn't going to wear them again I may as well go ahead and practice some sewing and cutting.

I sewed up along the edges of the sleeves first after discovering that the neck is stretchy enough to be a waistline on it's own. I got lucky there. (Check out the dog hair from my ever shedding dog.)

Look how neat my hand stitching is. I folded and sewed the sleeves down to main body of the t-shirt.

I was so keen to get this right I didn't take very good progress shots. I cut up the sides to form slits. I measured about seven inches and then added on a few more after the first few snips.

And then it was time for the red top which I just cut eleven inches off from the bottom and cut the sleeves away to make a loose crop tank. Check it out;

So there's my summer outfit slap bang in the middle of Scottish January. I'm looking into making some galaxy prints, skirts and other crop tops for future posts in time for getting my summer wardrobe sorted.

With floral love,
