At Christmas, Santa Clause brought me something which I had been contemplating buying for years, but had never had the courage to buy myself, even though I REALLY wanted one. My first record player!

And here she is. I could not be happier to own a record player, and to have started my own record collection.
However, when I mentioned to people I knew that I now owned one, the majority (who happended to be over a certain age) all said the same thing - "I used to have one of those in my day!"
This got me thinking about revivals in trends and in technology. Sure, records had become outdated, but now they are being revivied and they are making a comeback.
Recently whilst out shopping in Glasgow city centre I went into HMV with the intention of buying a particular album on vinyl. As I wandered around the shop there was no sign of any vinyl at all! When I asked the shop assistant if they stocked vinyl anymore, he laughed and told me to try downstairs. I went downstairs with the impression that there would be a stand with a small selection in the back corner - needless to say I could not have been more wrong! The majority of the basement level was full of racks and stands with rows and rows of records, in all genres, colours and sizes. However, what was more interesting was the amount of people who were down there searching the stands. It turns out I'm a bit late to the party with this one!
As the years go by, the things we consider to be obsolete, in their own time, become cool again. From vintage clothes, to Mini cars, to polariod cameras (here's looking at you Red!) things from years gone by are making their way back into our lives. And I welcome them all with open arms!
Although I'm dreading the comeback of the casette tape already...
