Glasgow Kilo Sale

For those of you in Scotland on the Facebook sphere, you would have noticed for weeks and weeks posts and adverts for 'The Vintage Kilo Sale' coming to Glasgow.
I certainly noticed and decided that it would be more than worth my time to go, even though when the actual day arrived it was horrifically stormy and I had to go on foot for the last stretch of my journey.

I got there a good half hour before opening, which was wise because there was a lot of rumaging and when something was gone it was gone, so if you ever go to one of these events in the furture, please get up early!
I had never been to a kilo sale before so this was an interesting experience for me.
The picture here pretty much explains how it works. They had some lovely purple bags for you to take and get rummaging. No one seemed to worry about how much they were grabbing, everyone just went for it. I was a little timid at first, which I regret now because I should have just fired in with snatching everything I could.

They had changing areas where you could try on your clothes and make sure it fitted or suited you before buying. This was actually the nicest part of the day, all the girls complimenting each other and complete strangers wanted to know what I thought of what they were wearing. I've never had such a lovely and supportive environment in a changing room before.
I would say though, despite having a good time, this is not an event to go to alone.

I felt a little put out that I didn't have a friend to dress up and the temperature was miserable. Quite a few things were badly stained or damp as well, which was a let down. The community feeling was lovely, but I was very alone.
Anyway, enough of my whining. If you are into skirts, shoes and ladies shirts then this isn't the event for you, but if you love vintage dresses, denim jackets, leather jackets and jeans then this is your heaven. And plaid. I've never seen so many plaid shirts outside a Supernatural episode in my life. I was on the lookout for some dungarees but they went fast and the couple I tried on were too baggy for my liking.
Just an FYI on size, this event sadly seemed to cater to smaller, very petite sizes overall. I did see some girls my size and girls that were plus size finding items, but on the whole you need a tiny frame to fit into a lot of the better quality items which is a real shame.
I would go again, I might even travel to a different city to see what else is available, but I know to be prepared for small sizes, stains and a limited variety next time.
I did manage to get myself an incredible outfit that I just adore and it made braving the weather and the rummagers all worth it.
Are you ready?

Isn't this amazing? It's a pinafore dress with pockets! Actual deep-I-can-fit-things-inside-pockets! And the teapot print is just beautiful and ever so charming. It's so far been a hit with everyone I've shown it too.
And no outfit is complete without a little jacket or accessory.

In my case I found a jacket, which I was not expecting because I've got enough coats and cardigans that I wasn't even looking for a jacket. But, those bows and colourful buttons just lept out at me and I had to slip it on. It's so painfully early 90s and I love it. Paired with my dress I feel like an adorable kids show host, or a character in a book about forest fairies.
I'm more than pleased with the outfit I managed to get, and I think I will check out The Vintage Kilo Sale next time they hit Glasgow or Edinbrugh. It's an interesting experience, and I hope I can find similiar sales events to go to and find more bargains.
However, I don't think I'm going to top the teapot dress anytime soon.
